A secret document indicating that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has granted licence to a local oil exploration company to resume full oil operations in Ogoniland have been sighted by IFN TV.
Our investigations have showed that a high-power meeting comprising of officials of the NNPC, the said local oil company and some leaders of Ogoni took place on October 18 2016 where the plan was strategized and fine-tuned.
Further investigations by IFN TV have also revealed that the said company was in Ogoni on September 20th as a follow up to the plans based on their approval by the NNPC.
A representative of the company who spoke to IFN TV confirmed the story but said it was not yet for public consumption.
“The Federal Government through its agency, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has granted you the Operatorship Licence to Develop OML II”, a portion of the document read.
Several attempts to reach the president of the Movement For the Survival of Ogoni People MOSOP, Mr Legborsi Pyagbara to find out if he is aware of the move and was part of the meeting didn’t yield a result as at press time.
This revelation is coming at a time when a larger population of the Ogoni people have expressed serious worry about the slow pace of the implementation of the UNEP Report on Ogoniland launched in June 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
