STORY FROM IFN NEWS DESK
Information reaching our news desk has it that Kogi indigenes in Diaspora, Ghana, on Wednesday in Accra came out of their meeting with half way success as the endorsement agenda for candidates vying for senatorial seats from the 3 Senatorial Districts in the state seems to happen with some disagreement.
As part of their efforts to contribute to the social political and economic growth of their state, the group made it a duty to be part of the process this time through evaluation and acceptance of individual candidate based on the track records and credibility.
After close looks and deliberation on each constituency with their leading candidates, it was easy for them to choose Kogi East Senatorial District which has Alh. Jibrin Issah Echocho the APC candidate as the preferred choice ahead of the seating Hon. Attai Aidoko of PDP whom they argue has not done much to impact into lives of its people and influence developments activities there, while Mr. Victor Adoji of SDP is still viewed as a potential material for the seat too.
On Kogi West Senatorial District, it was a close vote between PDP’S Senator Dino Melaye and APC’s Hon. Smart Adeyemi whom majority agreed to be a better candidate looking at his previous records having served in the same capacity under the PDP before the last election where the controversial Senator Dino Melaye defeated him. It was further argued that the schism between the governor and the radical senator who recently moved back to the opposition PDP has not done the state any good, rather, setting her backwards and giving the state bad name before the world, hence senator Smart Adeyemi was chosen to as their preferred candidate.
Finally, on the night was Kogi
Centre Senatorial District where close sources has it that the battle will be between one Barr. Natasha Akpoti, a lawyer and activist of SDP and Alh. Yahaya Oseni (Ayo) of APC. It was a serious disagreement as some see the brain behind the “Revive Ajaokuta” steel plant as the preferred choice because of her courage in bringing out some expose about a secret plan by some stakeholders to manipulate the company to their personal advantages and a subsequent rescue of the steel company from what many viewed as bad concession deal by the government and Alh. Yahaya Oseni (Ayo) of APC whom others argued that is their choice looking at how he has impacted into the lives of many people from the state irrespective of tribe and religion. He was also said to be the anointed candidate of the governor, though the governor have come out to clearly state his position of “not having any chosen candidate”, but obviously on the grounds of party affiliation it will be logical to say Ayo is the government candidate as the state is an APC zone for now.
Watchers are sitting back to see how the game will play out as the group is set to meet again while lobbying is on going for final endorsement before their planned international press conference and open endorsement of the chosen candidates.
